March 20, 2010 Cliff Dwellings

The day was great, not too cold, and fun for running and climbing and seeing how indigenous people lived MANY MANY moons ago. The kids were pretty intrigued by this! Rory purchased a dream catcher in Manitou Springs from the "Indian people". He keeps it in his room for "bad dreams".
Newer part. This houses a museum and gift store. Paige purchased a "best friends" necklace. Then it somehow got lost in the car. Sad face. She was SO sad....
I'd love to have this in my backyard. A place to bake bread. I have always loved this thing!
The workmanship is crazy. I know we "think" they weren't advanced or knowledgeable, however, look at how they lived, how compact and correct it was. Places for eating, sleeping, families, cooking, working, defense built in, worshipping. These utilize the resources of the sun, wind, land, and worked for them for many years, and still stand the test of time. It's amazing! Simply amazing!
Not much damage after all this time...isn't that amazing. Most damage was done in the early 1900's when the Cliff Dwellings became the "in" place to come and be seen. Finally a group put a stop to it, and this remains now.
My dear friend Rebecca with Troy at the entrance to the Cliff Dwellings...it really was a beautiful day!! Sunny and warm!! Chilly wind! Great place to go! Paige and "the boys" Jack, Nick and Rory in front of the dwellings. Rory really enjoyed playing with "those boys of your friend!" Beautiful Paige pretending she is an indigenous person!!
