Well, kids had a long spring break, and we needed something fun to do. We also needed to go spend some time with my girlfriend Rebecca who was having a rough time...and I missed all my friends! We left Tuesday after school/work and headed to Portland. We did manage a quick stop at the Craft Warehouse for some bottle top jewelry materials. Thank you Rory for finding them so quickly! We stayed overnight then got up early for a 9AM flight. Kids were pretty excited for their "first" ride in a big plane. They have spent many hours in smaller 4 seat planes and some helicopter time, but not the big, airport ones! And they don't remember the plane trip here in 2005.
We get up, get to the airport and we are prepped for security. Rory was asking me LOTS of questions, and I was answering, but not really paying attention. I just wanted to keep them moving as it was business traveling time. BTW, they ask for kids to have ID, then don't use them. And BTW, kids' ID's are $50 a piece....thanks!
We are getting closer to metal detector, and Rory is asking tons of questions, hurrying to do the shoes, ect. Then I notice he's laughing, loudly. REALLY loudly. He's worried about the rivets on his jeans, his buttons, etc. Finally I say STOP LAUGHING. He was starting to make me nervous!! LOL....Paige was a seasoned traveler it seemed...she was good to go!! I think Rory was just really nervous and worried.
Paige gets through the detector, no worries. Rory goes through, bumps the side, sets it off, panic in his face, embarrassment, goes through again, same thing. This time I say, don't touch anything! WHEW, we got through!
We get redressed and all I can think is how much easier this is than when we flew to Bend in 2005. They can both take care of their own shoes and bags!! LOVE IT!

We get to our concourse and gate, get on the plane. Taxi out, smoke. Taxi in, wait. Taxi out, smoke, taxi in. They unload us so the mechanics can fix it. We wait a few hours.

So instead of 9AM, we left about 12:30-1PM. I was so glad it was vacation and we hadn't set any tight plans. So no stress, no worries! YES!!
We get back on the plane and smooth sailing (flying) to Denver. Here they are at the famous map at the Denver Airport. So you know Peterson's Gardens in Redmond is listed over Oregon!! How cool! We'll have to go!!

We get our stuff, kids are getting the hang of how to get around in an airport. Get to the rental shuttle, Rory shares our life story with everyone. I get to the rental place and realize I reserved for the NEXT day. Whoops. Nice thing is, it was the same price, so yeah!! Get our car, hand Paige the map and instructions and off we go! Of course by now, it's rush hour! Paige is the best instruction giver! She rocks!
After driving and taking a missed turn, we decided to do something else at the last minute (Children's museum would have been closed:( ) and went to our hotel. Right next to it is Chili's. Rory LOVES that place for their warm applesauce, so we had dinner there! It was early enough we missed the St. Patrick's rush. We then drove across the street to a school playground and played there until way after dark, while I caught up with some old dear friends via phone!

Rory's goal was to make some friends, and he did. He learned how to play capture the flag with some kids, and Paige hung out at the swing set. It was a beautiful night!!
